In our latest customer spotlight, we sat down with Carson Brooks from Sportsweb Australia to discuss how he uses WebWave to provide affordable, professional websites for amateur sporting clubs across Australia and beyond.
Carson operates Sportsweb Australia under his umbrella company, Clicksport Media. His business model is brilliantly straightforward: provide amateur sporting clubs with professionally designed websites at a fraction of the typical cost, all while ensuring the platforms are user-friendly enough for club administrators to update content with ease.
Before landing on WebWave, Carson's business experimented with several platforms since 2015, including Wix, Squarespace, and even partnering with an Italian website builder for a couple of years.
"Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything for the price point I wanted that gave me the results and support I needed," he shares.
What ultimately led Carson to WebWave was thorough research and a pleasant surprise - discovering that WebWave had an office in Australia, eliminating the challenges of overseas support he had previously faced.
"Having gone through the experience of working with overseas companies, that was a real challenge with not only time zones but language barriers and getting first-hand support. It was almost kind of, for want of a better word, robotic," Carson explains. "With WebWave, whether it's during the day in Australia or out of hours with support from Poland, it works really well - almost verging on a twenty-four-seven scenario."
Carson describes himself as "not a designer by any stretch of the imagination" but someone who knows what he likes and works methodically. This approach perfectly aligns with WebWave's no-code platform.
"When I started using WebWave, I found it was very intuitive, a lot more similar to Wix. In fact, I even say—and some of my clients say—it's actually easier to use than Wix, because once you understand the basics, it's a pretty easy system to follow."
This ease of use extends to his clients as well. Carson has learned to balance giving clients access to update content while protecting the overall design integrity.
"What majority of my clients need, particularly at the sporting club level, is they just need to change a video or update a photo or change some text. The way it's locked down is that they can't then go and make big mistakes to the site thereafter."
When asked about the most beneficial features of WebWave, Carson highlighted the platform's flexibility and one particular feature that resonates with his clients:
"One of the things that sort of shone through for our customers is they really like what's called the PWA or the progressive web app feature. So that means their club logo looks like an app on somebody's phone. It gives them that extra little bit of professional brand recognition."
For Carson's business model, the ability to replicate sites and then brand them differently has been invaluable:
"Because we replicate a lot of our sites—we have quite a few sporting clubs that use similar websites, but obviously, they're branded differently—we can copy and paste those and just change the content over really quickly, which makes it really easy and leverages our ability to grow the business."
Above all, Carson emphasised the importance of support in his decision to use WebWave:
"Whenever we've had a little troubleshoot to do here and there, the guys have been so responsive and so quick to help turn things around or to adjust things for us. I heavily weigh on the support side of things."
He contrasts this with previous experiences: "The best amount of service you can hope for with Wix is an email reply within forty-eight hours. With WebWave, I'm getting face-to-face support over Google or Zoom or over a phone call."
Carson's business proposition is simple but powerful: "We basically say to clubs, 'Why bother trying to go through the heartache of building it yourself for the same price? We can actually do it for you and give you better service and connection.'"
This approach has allowed Sportsweb Australia to position themselves competitively in the market, offering professional websites at prices comparable to DIY solutions like Wix—but with the added value of expertise and support.

When asked about future improvements he'd like to see, Carson mentioned exploring more widget features and API integration possibilities that could help boost productivity, specifically for sports club websites.
He appreciates that WebWave regularly updates its platform: "Almost monthly, there's something in there that I go, 'Oh, wow. I haven't thought of that. I should try that and integrate it into what we're doing.'"
Carson's advice for anyone considering WebWave is straightforward: "I've done a lot of research for you, both overseas and domestically here in Australia. I've tested that many different platforms, it's not funny. The platform I've chosen needed to stand up to the scrutiny of my high expectations."
He concludes that WebWave offers great value for money compared to competitors like Wix and Squarespace, making it "great for an agency, great for an individual, and above all, you'll get lots of support to achieve your objective with the platform."
